The brief

As a company Smiths recognise that every 'touchpoint' with the company is an opportunity to build brand value and increase investor confidence. And in an era of heightened corporate governance and responsibility Smiths sought to ensure that their online presence met web standards and legal requirements as well as negating any exposure the business may have to reputational risk.

Smiths had previously turned to Being to deliver a .com web solution to help keep stakeholders informed with up-to- the-minute live market feeds and comprehensive online financial reporting, while ensuring that the appropriate quality, performance and compliance (web, brand, corporate
and regulatory) standards were met.

Smiths wanted to maintain this level of accreditation and ensure that publishing their annual report online met all statutory requirements and also take advantage of the unique opportunities this medium offers in building positive relationships with shareholders.

Being and Smiths looked to best practice guidelines provided by the Investor Relations Society (IRS) to ensure their online annual report was in line with increasingly stringent best practice and regulatory requirements as well as effectively communicating to shareholders.

The aim was to capitalise on new media and technology to help the stakeholder gain a better understanding about Smiths and performance based on business strategy. Extractable Excel downloads relevant to each financial section are always available as well as 'cut-up' pdf's and a print basket where pages can be stored and printed out when ready.

And with our brand skills and expertise, the online report was consistent in style and tone with the printed version.
